Many of the computers in the media room contain a Microsoft application called Movie Maker. This program allows you to create a multi-media project using photos, voice overs and music. Below is a step by step guide to using movie maker for your project.
Task 1: Create a Folder
First create a folder where you can hold all of your images, mp3 files and work.
- Right click with the mouse on the desktop
- Choose NEW and FOLDER
- Type the names of all group member and press enter.
Task 2: Save pictures
You will need images to create your project. You may already have them or you can search for some on the internet.
- Click on the INTERNET BROWSER button
- Type in google.com in the address bar
- Click IMAGES for an image search
- Type in what you are looking for
- Browse the pages to find your images. Remember to look at the number under the picture that is followed by a "k". This number needs to be larger than 30k. If not, the pictures will appear blurry. The larger the number the better.
- Click on the desired picture
- Click on full-size image
- Click SAVE PICTURE AS
- Click DESKTOP
- Click on your folder
- Click file name and rename the picture with a descriptive title
- Click save
- Use the back arrow button to return to images
- Collect as many images as you need for your Movie Maker project

In the following tasks you will learn now to import pictures and edit with movie effect, transitions and titles.
Task 3: Open Movie Maker and Save
- Click on the START tab on the desktop
- Click on Windows Movie Maker to open program
- Click FILE
- Click SAVE PROJECT AS
- Click DESKTOP
- Click on your folder
- Click on FILE NAME and type in names of team
- Click save
SAVE OFTEN
Task 4: Import Images and Insert Images
- On the left side under Capture Video click Import Pictures
- Click DESKTOP
- Click your folder
- Highlight all the pictures by putting a cursor to the right and below all the pictures, click, drag, to the left and up to highlight all, let go, and click import
- Make sure the screen is on story view. If not, click on show storyboard in the middle of the screen. In storyboard view you should see a series of boxes towards the bottom of the screen.
- Click and drag pictures into large boxes in the desired order. If you don't want a picture, right click and delete it.
Task 5: Effects, Transitions, Titles
EFFECTS
- Under EDIT MOVIE, click VIEW VIDEO EFFECTS
- Browse through video effects clip; double clock to view effect
- Choose an effect and click and drag the effect into the little box with the star in it. The star will turn blue when the effect has been successfully added. Add an effect tp each picture.
TRANSITIONS
- Under EDIT MOVIE click MAKE TITLES or CREDITS
- Browse through video transitions, double click to view
- Choose a transition and click and drag into smaller boxes between the pictures. Choose a transition to insert between each picture
TITLES
- Under EDIT MOVIE click MAKE TITLES or CREDITS
- Choose ADD TITLE at the beginning of a movie
- Type desired title. To chance font and background color, click CHANGE TEXT FONT AND COLOR. Clock the arrow under FONT and choose a font. To change color, clock on the box under COLOR and choose color, click ok.
- Click DONE, add TITLE TO MOVIE
- Click MAKE TITLES AND CREDITS to add more titles. Read from the choices and add titles where desired throughout the movie.
Remember: Adding titles can act as narration
Task 6: Importing Music
You can import a song to the movie
To add music:
- Songs must be appropriate, to enhance the theme of the movie
- Give me the title and artist of the song before adding it to your movie. You will need my approval
- Check the student server to see if there are some songs you can choose already
- Instrumental music is best, so it doesn't take away from the images or narration. Just like a movie in the theaters or on tv.
Importing music:
- Under capture, click IMPORT AUDIO or MUSIC
- Navigate the specific music location (desk top, server)
- OR - upload song, after my approval to the desk top
Choose song and click import
- The screen needs to be on TIMELINE VIEW so if it is not, click SHOW TIMELINE
- Click and drag song into the row titled AUDIO/MUSIC. The song will probably be too long, so place the cursor at the end of the song until you see a double red arrow and click and drag to the left until it is even with the end of the pictures
- Once the song is inserted into the movie, you may view the movie and listen to the song by dragging the blue bar on the timeline left (to the beginning of the movie), and clicking the play button on the viewer screen. If you decide you do not like the song, right click on the SONG IN THE TIMELINE and DELETE it.
ALWAYS SAVE OFTEN
After all movies are completed, we will showcase them in class.
